The Year-long Workshop to Write Your Novel or Memoir

OnLine Writing Mentorship

For years we have had students say to us, “I live too far away to commit to evening courses every two weeks. But I need a process that will help me finish my FIRST DRAFT. Do you have an online version?”

The answer is YES.

A Novel Approach is available as an OnLine Writing Mentorship in both memoir and fiction via email correspondence and online conference.

Writers in this virtual support program follow the same bi-weekly writing production schedule as participants in the workshops. (3,000 words every two weeks)

The mentor reads the work, meets with the writer, and emails back written feedback via the COMMENTS feature in Microsoft Word.

Since this format focuses on producing NEW WRITING, participants do not read and comment on other writer’s work, and there are no lesson plans. Participants work exclusively with a mentor to complete a NEW manuscript.

If you have already finished a FIRST DRAFT and are seeking assistance in analyzing what is working well, and how your story or memoir could be even better as a SECOND DRAFT, please visit our SECOND DRAFT Workshop (Available in-person and ONLINE)

Once a month the mentor and author share a one hour, in-person conversation by telephone or Skype at a mutually convenient time. During these sessions the author and mentor discuss the progress of the manuscript and share any other aspects of the process that the author would like reviewed or aspects of the writing craft that the mentor feels would benefit the participant.

A NOVEL APPROACH to FICTION and MEMOIR ONLINE WRITING MENTORSHIP begins whenever participants would like to start. (Usually within 30 days of registration)

NOTE: The months of July, August and December are excluded from the starting month list.

We welcome participants on individualized schedules, so if you would like to suggest a timetable or format that is more suited to your needs, please just ask.

To maximize the value this is what you will need:

  • access to a computer and the internet
  • moderate level of comfort with operating in an on-line environment
  • email address
  • word processor: Microsoft Word or Open Office
  • moderate level of comfort with using word processing technology (Microsoft Word, Open Office Word, text documents, etc.)
  • video software on your computer and access to the Internet (We may recommend videos or other online learning opportunities.)

To preserve the quality of the experience, we limit the number of simultaneous ONLINE WRITING MENTORSHIPS, so REGISTERING and PAYING for the FIRST SEGMENT initiates enrollment. Participants are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
