The Year-long Workshop to Write Your Novel or Memoir

Second Draft

A Novel Approach Second Draft is a THREE PART PROCESS for novelists and memoirists who have completed the first draft of a manuscript and who now want help polishing their manuscript and learning the skills needed to confidentally:

1 Speak confidently about yourself and your book
2 Pursue literary agent representation
3 Approach traditional publishers

PART 1: Obtain a SUBSTANTIVE EDIT of your manuscript.

Register and Pay for A Novel Approach 2nd Draft at any time.
A NOVEL APPROACH Second Draft 2018/19 closes SEPT. 9th. (Only 2 spots remaining)
Email a Word copy of your manuscript within 3 weeks of registration, or (by Sept. 20th, latest.) if you need more time. (Please ask us about extensions)
We will meet for a Substantive Edit meeting at a mutually agreed time and place in September or October.

PART 2: Plan your REWRITE and Complete it over the next 5 to 6 months.

(The first silent writing revision date is Thursday, October 4th. The completion target is MARCH BREAK, 2019, so participants can join the Part 3 Intensive Workshop staring April 4th.

ONLINE participants who do not live within commuting distance, and will not be participating in the PART 3 Intensive in April, 2019, have more time to complete a REWRITE. But experience has shown that the longer an author takes to plan and finish a rewrite, the more likely it will not be completed.

Deadlines are a key feature of A Novel Approach Second Draft. ONLINE participants follow the same timetable design as those who attend the Alternate Thursday Writing Days at Uplands.

PART 3: Complete the 9 week Intensive Group Workshop: Preparing You and Your Book for the Marketplace.

Available once a year on 9 consecutive Thursday evenings (6:30 – 9:00) starting April 4th at Uplands.

(Not available ONLINE at this time)

Each of the three segments is priced separately and should be taken consecutively to maximize the value of the learning experience and the story-refining process. Due to the detailed knowledge that the facilitator learns about your writing skills, process and manuscript, participants are strongly encouraged to complete the segment(s) in order. However, some writers prefer to take breaks between the segments. This is one of the main reasons that the segments are priced separately.

A Novel Approach Second Draft PART 2 starts the first week of October every year.

PLEASE NOTE: Sue Reynolds accepts a limited number of Second Draft MEMOIR manuscripts each year. If you have written a MEMOIR and would like Sue Reynolds as your Substantive Edit Mentor, please indicate this when registering.
