“I get a lot of letters from people. They say, ‘I want to be a writer. What should I do?’
I tell them to stop writing to me and get on with it.”
~ Ruth Rendell

Finish Your Novel At Last!

We have developed this workshop for writers who have made a great start on a novel, but lost the energy and focus to complete it.

There it sits, unfinished, as you secretly ache for the day you graduate from saying, “I’m working on a novel” (For how many years now?) to declaring, “I’ve written a novel”.

How good would that moment feel?

There are so many reasons not to finish your novel:

  • Life keeps getting in the way (Any good reason will do, and all of them are interchangeable.)
  • I’m a terrible writer (or so my internal muse keeps reminding me)
  • My heart is broken because a mentor took one look at my story and laughed like the Joker (Especially in a Creative Writing Class)
  • My story is boring (Or so my internal critic keeps saying!)
  • A novel is a long project (Working alone without ongoing encouragement can become dispiriting)
  • Pick another reason specific to your life (Does it still apply today?)

In this workshop we provide the discipline and creative support to help you cross the finish line.

This is how it works:

  • You meet ONLINE every second Sunday from 3:00 until 5:00 (EST) with a group of like-minded writers (limit of 5 participants).
  • You will receive fresh writing prompts to inspire you to write new scenes for your novel in the first 80 minutes.
  • In the final 40 minutes of each session, you are invited to share excerpts from your writing and receive positive, strengths-based feedback from myself and the other participants.
  • Although we write new scenes in the workshop, you will need to allocate additional time at home to write at the pace that works best for you. We are confident that this bi-weekly structure will inspire you to produce 3,000 words or more between the Sunday afternoon workshops.

ADDITIONAL INDIVIDUAL FEEDBACK OPTION:

If one-on-one reading of your pieces and strengths-based feedback would also inspire you to finish your novel, simply email your new scenes (maximum 3,000 words each time) in a Word document to me whenever you are ready. I will read them carefully, prepare a substantive response and discuss each submission with you in a 30 minute zoom chat at a mutually convenient time before the next Sunday afternoon writing workshop.
The cost of my substantive reading of each 3,000 word submission, including our 30 minute zoom chat, is $70 + HST.

(I will invoice you via Paypal after each zoom chat, or you could send an e-transfer if you prefer.)
Please note that I am only able to accept 6,000 words from each participant each month.
There is no target word count for submissions. Over the four months of the writing workshop, simply send me your new scenes at your pace as you approach the finish line of your novel.

Other than the responses you share with the other participants in the Sunday afternoon writing sessions, you will not be required to read or critique any of the scenes written by your fellow writers in the group. There is no writer’s craft lessons, although I may offer recommendations in our individual zoom sessions.
PLEASE NOTE: This workshop is designed to help you WRITE NEW SCENES FOR YOUR NOVEL. If you need support in rewriting scenes in your almost finished novel, a better solution would be to ask about our ONLINE MENTORSHIP or A NOVEL APPROACH SECOND DRAFT.
